The North Downs Line Level Crossing Upgrade Programme modernised high-risk crossings using a digital-first signalling approach. Computer-based interlocking, advanced MCB technologies and off-site rehearsal facilities reduced delivery time, trackside exposure, and whole-life cost. Digital twins supported design validation, while integration solutions enabled legacy compatibility. Safety risk was significantly reduced, setting a replicable model for efficient, safety-led level crossing renewals on the UK network.
